California Summertime

We are keeping up with our average of updating our blog every 2.5 months. Autumn continues to grow into her role as a mother of a precocious toddler and new son who will be welcomed to our family in the next few months--July 11 is Autumn's due date. Autumn is enjoying her new job as a nurse in labor and delivery at Sutter Memorial Hospital--especially since her 2 shifts a month fit nicely into family life.

Kirstin's vocabulary is exploding. She loves to read books. Her current favorites are the Winnie the Pooh books and her dad's childhood favorite: The Spooky Old Tree.

Here are a few pictures from the last few weeks:

We invited the missionaries from our ward for dinner on Mother's Day. We took pictures of them and sent them to their mothers. They also took one of our little family with our house in the background.

We took our second annual trip to Big Sur/Monterey. The weather was sunny and beautiful. Kirstin loved the beach. This is a picture of McWay Falls at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur.

Kirstin loved seeing the fish at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. They have interactive exhibits for the kids to enjoy.

We visited family in Utah and Idaho including attending "Kaykee's" baptism and welcoming Zio "Lo-Lo" home from his mission and playing with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

One of Jeff's Scout had an Eagle Project at the Sacramento Zoo. Kirstin and Autumn met him there to see the animals.

Jeff is training for his first triathlon. Autumn and Kirstin meet Jeff at the local pool a few times a week during lunch for swimming time. Jeff also purchased a new road bike (Specialized Tarmac). He's thinking about quitting his job a training for the Giro and the Tour de France next year.

We are incrementally improving our yard and garden. We brough in 5 cubic yards of soil because we found last year that hard clay did not produce very much. We planted peas, zuchini, pumpkins, beans, tomatoes, carrots, onions, and strawberries. Our orange "stick" produced three orange buds which have quickly fallen off--maybe next year.

As you can see, the California sunshine is great for our gigantic zuchini plants.

On a recent "Daddy Night" (when Autumn was working), Jeff and Kirstin enjoyed a Sacramento River Cats baseball game (Triple-A). Kirstin loved the $1 hot dogs and ice cream. She even lasted into the bottom of the 3rd inning!
